Wow, it's summer time already! My son will be moving on to the 2nd grade next school year and I can't believe how fast time flies! For my kiddos, summer fun includes the swimming pool, visiting family, trips to the beach, the slip-n-slide set up in the back yard, playing with our dog, Huckleberry, listening for the icecream truck, outings to the library, and lots and lots of reading. I want to make sure Ethan goes back to school ready for 2nd grade! With so many exciting activities planned each day during the summer, I don't want to forget to spend some wind down time reading to my kids. I love that my kids enjoy reading so much and now that my oldest child knows how to read on his own, he can read to me too! Having him read to me not only makes him a more fluent reader, but it also builds his vocabulary and boosts his confidence. Right now, he is reading the How to Train Your Dragon series. Set up a special book nook in your home and keep your kids reading over the summer too!

so big
“How’d I get so big?” Ethan wondered after his mother gave him a big hug and said, “You’re my big boy!” Riley Ostermann’s book, So Big is an absolute delight of a children’s tale. Ostermann beautifully renders the unbreakable bond between mother and child and brings a wondrous joy to teaching children about the importance of being healthy. Boys and girls alike are introduced to the value of nutritious meals, exercise, and rest in order to grow up so big.
illustrations
The pictures in this book are like no other children’s book. These unique illustrations were hand drawn by John Ostermann and colored by crayon. The use of crayon added to the sweet innocence depicted in the story. John did a superb job portraying the real Ethan and capturing childhood all together. John Ostermann is an artist who enjoys drawing in several different styles. While attending Texas A&M University, John won several drawing contests. He now enjoys illustrating for children. John lives near Houston, TX with his family, Allison, and son’s, Hayden and Noah.
